Dr. Bob Smith
Pastor Emeritus
Bob W. Smith was born July 30, 1939, and was raised in Myrtle Springs, Texas. He was one of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. George Smith, a hard-working and honest farming family. Dr. Smith was saved at Hayden Baptist Church, near Myrtle Springs, at the age of fifteen.
Dr. Smith and his wife, Diana, were married on June 14, 1958, and have three daughters: Cindy Murphy of Rowlette, Texas, Karen Caviness of Roseburg, Oregon, and Kim Keiser of North Richland Hills. Dr. and Mrs. Smith have nine grandchildren: four boys, five girls, and ten great-grandchildren.
Dr. Smith surrendered to preach on August 23, 1964, at Hurstview Baptist Church, under Reverend Comal Wallace. At that time, Dr. Smith quit his job and went into the ministry full-time, pastoring the Joy Baptist Temple in Forth Worth, Texas. "After about a year," he said," I saw a need for training and entered the Bible Baptist Seminary in Arlington, Texas, in the fall of 1965.
He resigned as Pastor of Joy Baptist Temple in 1966 to become Associate Pastor at Hurstview Baptist Church. After graduating from Bible Baptist Seminary in May of 1969, he continued at Hurstview Baptist Church until December of 1969, when he accepted a call to pastor Central Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Under the leadership of Dr. Smith, Central Baptist Church grew from one-hundred forty in attendance to a high attendance of 1,352, and was the fastest growing Baptist church in the state. They led the State of Louisiana in baptisms. Many young men surrendered to God's call to preach the Gospel during Dr. Smith's ministry in Louisiana.
In 1976, Dr. Smith entered full-time evangelism and preached an average of three-hundred seventy times per year during the next eight years. He averaged thirty-six revival meetings per year, in addition to many special meetings and special days. He left evangelism to become Missions Director for the Independent Baptist Fellowship International in 1984.
In 1986, he was called to pastor in Trinity Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. Since 1990, under Dr. Smith's leadership, Trinity Baptist Church led all churches in Tarrant County in baptisms and has been in the top ten churches in the state in baptisms. The church continues to grow spiritually and numerically.
More than one hundred eighty young men and women have surrendered to full-time Christian service during the twenty-four years that Dr. Smith was pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. At his retirement, Trinity Baptist Church averaged about 1,200 in attendance on Sunday mornings and baptized about 600 or more each year. TBC had a high day of 2,492 in attendance.
Under Dr. Smith's leadership, Trinity Baptist Church established Trinity Baptist Bible College and Trinity Baptist Academy in the fall of 2000. A large Spanish Department is thriving and growing. Soul-winning ministries, bus ministries, teen ministries, children's ministries, and vibrant adult ministries all work together to make TBC an exciting church on the go for our Lord. A very strong Missions program has made Trinity Baptist Church one of the outstanding Mission churches in our Nation. Dr. Smith retired from the pastorate at Trinity Baptist Church on October 17, 2010. He is currently active in preaching Revivals, Mission Conferences, Stewardship Conferences, Bible Conferences, and filling pulpits across America.
